Fighting for a Future: Empowering Inner-City Youth Through Boxing
Since its founding in 2009, Stick N Move has served as a beacon of hope for inner-city youth facing financial hardship and social challenges in York. Founded by Antwoine Dorm and his dedicated team, Stick N Move is a nonprofit organization devoted to providing at-risk youth with a constructive outlet through boxing, mentoring and life skills development.
The mission of Stick N Move is clear: to provide at-risk youth an alternative to negative influences created by inner city living and prepare them for future roles as productive members of the community. Over its 26 years, the organization has served over 1,700 children and their families, impacting lives through its empowering program.
The belief in Stick N Move’s work has been evident through the support of Louis Appell, Jr., his family and the Powder Mill Foundation.
Mr. Appell inspired me more than he will ever know. The Powder Mill Foundation’s continuous support has impacted the lives of York’s youth, giving them hope for a brighter future. Through their unwavering belief in our cause and their generous support, they have empowered us to make a meaningful impact in our community. Their contributions have not only provided the resources needed to sustain our programs but also inspired us to continue fostering positive change and opportunity for youth through the discipline and art of boxing.
Antwoine Dorm, Stick N Move’s founder
Stick N Move’s boxing provides more than just physical training, it’s a safe space where young people facing overwhelming challenges like gangs, violence, drugs, homelessness, poverty and broken families find stability and belonging. For these who participate in the program, boxing is not just a sport; it’s a pathway to resilience and personal growth.
Fundraising efforts are crucial to expanding the reach of Stick N Move’s services. With continued support, more low-income kids and families can experience the benefits of mentorship and a positive, structured environment. When they partner with their mentors, participants learn discipline, self-control and personal development, giving them the proper tools to build a better future.
Mr. Appell was deeply committed to York City and its growth, particularly through initiatives that benefited the community and supported its youth. He believed in investing in programs that uplift people and create lasting, positive changes.

Today, Stick N Move works with people from age eight to adult, offering a positive outlet to create self-reliance and personal growth. This empowerment is shaping the next generation of leaders and paving the way for a stronger future for York City.
Mr. Appell might have also seen Stick N Move Boxing as a way to strengthen York City’s legacy. We are creating a ripple effect of positive change that will impact younger generations for years to come.
