Restoring Homes and Changing Lives: Servants Strengthens Local Communities

For more than 25 years, Servants, a faith-driven organization, has been dedicated to serving Christ through serving others. With a mission rooted in meeting the physical, emotional and spiritual needs of those in crisis – particularly by ensuring safe and affordable housing for vulnerable populations – Servants has built meaningful relationships, transformed lives, and provided hope through compassionate action.

By delivering critical home repairs and maintenance services to low-income families, older adults, single parents, veterans, and disabled homeowners in York, Lancaster and Adams Counties, Servants helps those in need remain in their homes with dignity and security. The organization’s work extends beyond construction; each replaced floor, installed wheelchair ramp, or fixed faucet is an act of restoration, offering hope and stability to transform lives.

Thanks to the support of Louis Appell, Jr., his family, and the Powder Mill Foundation, Servants can provide essential home repairs and accessibility modifications for approximately 20 low-income older adults and individuals with disabilities. These services will include ramps, grab bars, widened doorways, plumbing and electrical fixes, flooring repairs, and exterior maintenance.

With the Powder Mill Foundation’s support, we have been able to expand our reach, providing critical home repairs and accessibility modifications to user-resourced older adults, ensuring they can age in place safely and affordably. Beyond financial support, they have provided valuable guidance, encouragement, and connections that have strengthened our capacity to serve.”
Trent Davis, Founder and CEO of Servants

Servants’ impact provides more than just physical repairs; they build relationships and provide hope to transform lives and extend God’s love and grace into the lives of those who need it most. Continued support allows additional low-income individuals and families to experience the benefits of having a safe, well-maintained home.

Mr. Appell understood that a thriving community is built on collaboration, and I believe he would appreciate how this project brings together volunteers, churches, businesses, and local organizations to serve our most vulnerable neighbors. I’d like to think he would be proud to see how his vision of an engaged and growing community lives on through efforts like ours, ensuring every resident has the opportunity to age in place safely and with dignity.”.
Trent Davis

Today, Servants has completed critical repairs in over 1,500 homes, turning a simple vision into a movement of hope and transformation and demonstrating the power of Christ’s love in action.

I believe that Mr. Appell would see this project as a true reflection of his vision for York. A city where people, regardless of their circumstances, can thrive in a safe, vibrant community.”
