An excellent education, affordable for all families
Since its founding in 1998, Logos Academy, a private school in York, PA, has built a tradition of providing an excellent education that is affordable for all families, reserving two-thirds of classroom seats for students who live below or near the federal poverty line. Starting with 14 kindergarten and first-grade students, Logos has grown to over 270 K-12 students, most living in York City.
Logos provides an ideal learning environment in small class sizes focusing on these core values:
- Christ Centered
- Culturally Diverse
- Community Minded
- Classically Trained
- Collaborative Family Partnerships
Traci Foster, the school’s founder, saw an opportunity to try something innovative – a private education for those who normally couldn’t afford it. She believed that education is a pathway out of poverty, helping students and families raise themselves up. She also believed that a warm, loving, safe and accepting educational environment forms good citizens and enables bright minds for the future of their community. In an “aligning of hearts”, it was an idea that Louis Appell, Jr. believed in as well.
Mr. Appell was instrumental in the initial Capital Campaign to fund the start of Logos Academy. His influence helped mobilize other donors to make impact investments that support transformational, social change. He also believed in “patient social capital”, allowing these investments the time they need to see the good will happen.
He loved York. And he cared about kids. They represent the future. Having a leader who was among them, respected them and cared about their success is a life changing opportunity.
Aaron Anderson, CEO and Head of School
The Powder Mill Foundation continues to support the school that Mr. Appell cared so deeply about. Recently, the Powder Mill Foundation helped Logos Academy expand as they moved to a new facility and built new space to fulfill their mission and serve even more students and families. Now, people in the community see its vitality and want to know more about what’s going on inside.
Powder Mill Foundation provides not only financial resources, but the leadership we need to do good work.
Aaron Anderson
Aaron Anderson is certain that Louis Appell, Jr. is watching over Logos Academy today. Aaron states, “Like Mr. Appell, York is a place we all love. We are thankful to be part of that fabric.”
