Imagining, Educating and Innovating
A non-profit arts center located in the heart of downtown York, Creative York offers the community educational opportunities, a variety of outreach programs and the ability to experience art.
Driven by the vision of providing all with the confidence to discover and express their unlimited imagination, innate creativity and potential, Creative York has supported local artists of all disciplines for more than 30 years by showcasing their work in two intimate gallery spaces located on-site.
Aside from their efforts to contribute to, support and grow the local creative and artistic community, Creative York also works to reach at-risk children in the City of York through initiatives such as their Art in the Parks summer program. The Art in the Parks program provides children with artistic activities that help them develop their team-building and social skills, as well as an outlet to express themselves.
All artforms in the York community were greatly appreciated and supported by Louis Appell, Jr. As a result of his appreciation for York’s artistic roots, Mr. Appell and the Powder Mill Foundation contributed to a debt-reduction campaign and expansion project for Creative York.
Mr. Appell and the Powder Mill Foundation have been a huge component of helping our community thrive and grow. Mr. Appell has always been supportive of the arts community. Having that support for arts organizations, art galleries and artists creates a culture that people want to be a part of. When people are visiting from other cities to take a class, they comment that they can’t wait to come back!

These efforts have allowed Creative York to reach stable financial ground and bring more creative experiences to the local community.
